Boy Scout Events

We weren't sure we'd ever make it, but we have had our first rank advancement as a Boy Scout now and have earned a total of 8 merit badges. Jason is actually almost completed with his Second Class rank as well, but has a few more things to do...hopefully in time for summer camp so he can participate in more activities. Our troop has a really nice ceremony for the Court of Honor, and the scout has to pin his mom with his new rank. Jason was embarrassed when he was told to kiss his mom! Unfortunately, Dave was out of town at a leadership training and missed the big moment - even though he's the one who has done more to help Jason earn his rank, at least by going with him to camp outs where he can participate in activities. There will be future advancements though!

After Dave came back on Friday, we took Saturday and went skiing with Jason's Boy Scout troop at a local "resort". It was a gorgeous day, with temperatures in the 60's, but that didn't make for the best snow conditions! I told Dave it was like skiing on snow cones! The snow was very granular / icey. Not great for learning on if you're a first time skiier like the kids were! But as one of friends said, they were learning on the worst and that should make them better! We had a great time despite the ice. Mostly we stayed on the bunny hills to ski with the kids, but while they took a ski lesson, we did go up the lift once. That was all it took for me! It was way too icey for me from the top! I came down snowplowing all the way! Dave went up again, but he was so tired from traveling that he didn't want to go again. You can see below the position that Jason spent much of his day in. Lauren seemed to just float down the hill with no effort at all, but Jason had to work hard to get the hang of it. Once he did he was fine, as long as he didn't fall! All in all, it was a great day! We hope to go back and get the kids proficient - maybe we'll take one of our trips out west to ski!
