Jason has had a great fishing season! He went to the fishing camp out in May and caught a tagged fish which one him a grand prize of his choice, so of course he picked out a limited edition light saber! This is his largest catch at the camp out - and yes, he has had a haircut since then! He wanted to grow it out, but I finally put my foot down! He finished 6th grade on the honor roll, had a great piano recital, and made his First Class Scout rank. He has just returned from summer camp and earned 5 more merit badges including Lifesaving, Indian Lore, Camping, Canoeing and Wilderness Survival. He was showing me some of his life saving maneuvers at the pool yesterday. Glad to see he is proud of his acheivement. He only has one more merit badge to earn and he'll be moving up another rank!

The news continuously covers the flooding that all the rain this year has caused, but one thing you don't often hear about is the effect on the flora in the midwest. If you're not in a floodplain, you have the most beautiful yards this year! I took this picture of Lauren in front of my lilies which last year were so small! It's truly amazing! Everything is so lush and green.
The only other bit of news is one of the reasons that I haven't updated this blog in so long! I "took a fall" 3 weeks ago and suffered a concussion. Now, I wish I had a really good story to go along with this, and I'm getting tired of telling the lame story, so I think after this I will start making up a new story for everyone that I have to relay it to....so for the last time, here's the truth: I fell off the piano bench. Yes, nothing glamorous. I fell off the piano bench while trying to help the piano tuner to put the lid back on the piano. I thought I was straddling the center of the bench, and when I went to sit down realized I was on the end and flipped over going straight down on my back. I whip lashed my neck and jarred my head. It is amazing how such a stupid simple thing can cause such discomfort and limit your abilities for so long. Now the Dr. says that I have post concussive syndrome which can last up to 6 months. I was feeling much better until church today, when I bowed my head during the prayer, I apparently stretched my neck again, and lost my balance for the rest of the day. I will be calling the dr. again in the morning.
We are leaving on vacation soon, and I think it might be wise (although I really don't want to do it) to wear a neck brace during the trip. You would be amazed how much you use your neck muscles to counteract the movement of a car!!! I am always stiff after long car rides, so it might help to stabilize it but only in the car.
